Walkers are Everywhere

Since The Walking Dead is on tonight, I thought I’d talk about something TWD related that doesn’t have to do with the show for a change.

A lot of times, when video game companies come out with games based on movies or TV, they don’t do very well. For example, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. I’ve never played it, and I don’t really want to based on what I have read/seen.

While this TWD related game didn’t do well, The Walking Dead Game by Telltale Games has been incredibly successful. If you’re a fan of the show, you will probably really like this game. Even if you’ve never read or watched The Walking Dead, the game is great on its own. It has its own characters and its own storyline.

If you’re unfamiliar, this game is episodic. It’s split into “seasons” and “episodes”, much like a TV show. There are currently 2 seasons, each with 5 episodes. A third is currently being developed. The Walking Dead Game has received global acclaim, receiving over 80 Game of the Year and other awards.

The great thing about this game is that it focuses more on telling a good story rather than having a lot of action. In an interview with Game Informer, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman talks about what interested him in making the game with Telltale Games: “They came to me with a proposal that involved decision-making and consequences rather than ammunition gathering or jumping over things; I was impressed by that.”

I have to mention it get’s really emotional. You have to make split-second decisions that determine who lives and dies. The last episode of the first season had me in tears. I’m not going to spoil anything; just don’t say I didn’t warn you.

If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead, or even if you’re not, give The Walking Dead Game a play. It’s a really great story, and a really great game. I still have one episode left of the second season. I don’t want to play it because I know I’m going to have a hard time waiting for season 3, and I know I’m probably going to cry!

  1. The telltale game is wonderful! And Survival Instinct could have been great, but it was executed so poorly that o couldn’t finish it.
