Falling Behind

I wish there were more hours in a day so that I could watch everything I want to watch. Unfortunately, time is limited and I’m starting to fall behind on some shows.

A lot of fall shows are either coming close to their winter hiatus or ending for the year (or ending for good, like Sons of Anarchy), so let’s talk about where things are going with my favorite shows and what’s coming up in the next few months.

Sunday

The Walking Dead season 5 started on Sunday, and it set records. More people tuned in to the premiere than Sunday night football! AMC posted an interview with Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on the show. He talks about the new season, as well as the finale of season 4.

Monday

Rebecca Jane Stokes from Den of Geek reviewed this weeks episode of The Blacklist, giving it 3.5 out of 5 stars. The Blacklist might not be getting rave reviews from critics, but it continues to dominate Monday night’s prime time ratings.

Week in Review 10/11

Another week of TV has come to an end, and there’s so much to talk about!

Sunday

The Strain came to an end this past Sunday, and quite a few people, including Marc Buxton from Den of Geek, were not happy with the way it ended. It’s true that nothing was resolved in the finale, but from what I understand this series is closely following the novels written by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. I haven’t read the books myself, but I have heard that the season 1 finale ended the same way the book ended. The subsequent book, The Fall, takes place 2 weeks after The Strain and the final book, The Night Eternal, 2 years later. I enjoyed the first season of the Strain and am looking forward to season 2.

My DVR is almost full

Why do I do this to myself?

As the ratings are coming in for the premieres of the last few weeks, I’m struggling to keep up with all the shows I want to watch. And the premieres aren’t done! Just this week Stalker, Gracepoint and A to Z are going to premiere. In the coming weeks, fan-favorites American Horror Story and the Walking Dead are returning.

Gotham had a strong premiere rating, which doesn’t really surprise me. I haven’t seen it yet, but I think the premise for the series is very interesting to most people, seeing as Batman has been a huge hit over the years for movies. The Voice had its lowest premiere rating ever, which again, doesn’t really surprise me. I’m sure everyone else is getting just as exhausted with singing competitions as me. It still is the best of its genre though. The Blacklist had a good season 2 premiere, which was expected since it was the biggest hit drama last fall. I am surprised to see that the Mysteries of Laura had good ratings for the premiere; maybe I’ll have to add that to my ever-growing watch list. The TV spots for the NBC dramedy seemed corny to me.

My DVR is filling up. I have Gotham, Scorpion, Sleepy Hollow, New Girl, The Mindy Project, The League, and Z Nation to catch up on. I’ll watch what I can on my day off this week. I have to, for the blog!

Tonight the Strain is on, and it’s the second to last episode of the season! It’s going to be good. Has anyone read the books? I’m interested to hear how the show compares.

What’s on Tonight?

There are FIVE shows that I want to watch that premiere tonight. I won’t be able to catch them all though. I’ll probably watch the Voice and Blacklist tonight, and the rest tomorrow. I ranked them from what I’m least excited about to most excited about:

5. Scorpion (CBS @ 9 PM)

Scorpion looks like it could be interesting, but out of everything I want to watch, it comes last. It might be hard for people to relate to these characters, since they are all “geniuses”. I liked Katherine McPhee in Smash, so it will be nice to see her in something else. I will be watching this one On Demand.

4. The Voice (NBC @ 8 PM)

I have been watching the Voice since halfway through season 2. Now at season 7, I still keep up with it but it is getting less exciting. I am interested in seeing how Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams do on the show. Hopefully they can still keep the program entertaining and it doesn’t suffer the same fate as American Idol (which I never really liked).

3. Gotham (Fox @ 8 PM)

I’m actually really excited for Gotham; I am a fan of Batman movies and video games so I think that a back story on James Gordon and the criminals of Gotham will be really interesting! It’s third on my list because I’m more excited for my returning favorites.

2. Sleepy Hollow (Fox @ 9 PM)

I loved Sleepy Hollow last year! It was so interesting and like nothing else on TV. Although I was really bummed that Clancy Brown’s character was killed in the first episode, I really enjoyed the first season. I love the little bits of humor that are thrown in as Ichabod Crane tries to figure out the modern world and stop the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

1. The Blacklist (NBC @ 10 PM)

The Blacklist was a lot better than I expected it to be. I really only watched it because it came on right after the Voice. I normally don’t like these kind of cop/FBI shows, but this one really intrigued me. I love David Spader; he plays a really convincing criminal mastermind. I hope that we find out who “Berlin” is tonight, although I feel like that might be stretched out a little longer. I loved the character of “Tom Keen”, or whoever he really was. I wish he wasn’t killed off so soon, his story line could have been really interesting.

So that is what I will be up to tonight/tomorrow! Is anyone else going to be watching any of these shows? What are you most excited for?
